Ingredients for Homemade Tortilla Wraps

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of filling those wraps, let’s start with the basics: making your tortilla wraps from scratch. It’s easier than you think and oh-so-rewarding. Here’s what you’ll need:

• 3 cups all-purpose flour (for gluten-free tortilla wraps, swap with your favorite gluten-free flour)
• 4 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
• 3/4 cup water + 2 tablespoons water
• 1/2 tablespoon salt (adjust to your liking; I find 1/2 teaspoon works well)

Step-by-Step: Crafting Your Tortillas

Step 1: The Dough

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
2. Create a well in the center, add the olive oil and gradually mix in the water until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth—about 5 minutes should do the trick.

Step 2: The Roll-Out

1. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls (how big is up to you and how large you want your wraps).
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a thin circle. Aim for thinness; the thinner, the better they cook.

Step 3: The Cook

1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place a rolled-out tortilla in the skillet.
2. Cook until bubbles form and the bottom has browned slightly, about 1 minute, then flip and cook the other side. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Hello, thank you for the tortilla recipe, have been looking for this a long time, I shall have a go tomorrow and let you know how I got on. My husband just loves a bit salad, ham, and my home made chutney, and they’re full of goodness. No added nasties!

Hello! I’ve made tortilla’s plenty of times before with various versions of recipe (mainly ones that use milk though, so I’ll try this one with water for a change), but haven’t been able to freeze them too well – do you know if this one freezes ok?
    Many thanks!

  6. I’m determined to save money on our food bill this year. I want to plant a veggie garden, and start baking things from scratch, and this recipe is awesome! There are so many things you can do with tortillas!
    Thanks for posting!

    • You are right. There are so many things we can do with tortillas. Here in Malaysia, 8 tortillas cost almost 3$ (10 times to homemade) which I feel pretty costly as compare to homemade.

  8. Are these cooked in the oven? Or stovetop?
